The Follicle Jungle
Hair. If you really think about it, we want an abundance of it on our heads, fear losing all of it on our eyebrows or lashes, but really prefer it to go away everywhere else.
We pluck it, shave it, pull on it, run our hands across its stubble, play with it as we watch TV and even put ourselves through regular torture sessions as someone else rips it off so that we don’t have to deal with it for greater lengths of time. But what if you could get rid of most of your unwanted hair for life? You can — with laser hair removal.
If you look at laser hair removal as an investment in your future sanity, freeing you from a hairy back, a weedy bikini area, or an unsightly uni-brow, it really begins to have an appeal. How does this work? The laser light targets the hair follicle pigment at the correct stage of hair growth and disables the hair shaft and root, causing subsequent re-growth to be finer and lighter. Because hair growth occurs in three stages, hair removal treatments are scheduled six to twelve weeks apart, so that hair can be effectively targeted during each growth cycle, ultimately resulting in permanent hair reduction.
Not all hair types will be candidates, however. Effective laser and light-based hair removal depends on the presence of melanin in the hair. Blonde, white, gray, and most shades of red hair are generally not susceptible to treatment. But if you suffer from darker growths of hair in all the wrong places, laser hair removal is truly the ticket. The most common areas requested are the face, upper lip, neck, chest, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line and legs.
